  1. It must be the contemplative season. I like this thought of yours, it’s succinct and true.

Some folks choose the same illusion time after time and pay the toll every time their hamster wheel makes another rotation. When I watch them make it work for themselves – and they do, no matter how deluded or limited or self-centered or ignorant or insane or damaging to themselves and others it looks to me – I’m usually reminded of a thing Einstein said. “A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?” All I can say to that is, “It ain’t you, Al. It’s them.”

You can’t kill’em and you can’t teach’em anything, so I reckon the best we can do is keep our own eye on the inspiring source which is twisted out of shape in order to create these illusions. Let them carry on in their own way. Hopefully they’ll learn something. And if they don’t – they don’t.

    Today’s quote:
“What are you doing for the Fourth?”
    “Staying out of the way.”

    • A few days ago, as I was waking up at about 5:00 a.m., the words “Each illusion is a choice; each illusion has its toll” sort of popped into my mind. I thought, “OK, I’m AWARE of that,” and went about my day. The words kept coming back, and I thought, “OK, I UNDERSTAND that,” and moved on. Of course the words returned, and of course I said “OK, I think I KNOW that.” When the words were still showing up a few days later, I began to wonder if I really did KNOW. I searched on the internet to see if it was a quote from someone, but I couldn’t find that anyone had said it (though I’m pretty sure someone must have at some time). It is succinct and true, as you note, so I wrote it down.
